A Glimpse Into the Entertainment of a Middle School Student

Middle schoolers are hilarious. Strange. But hilarious.

Everyday I am constantly reminded of why I teach this age level. You have to have just the right amount of sarcasm (because some of them can recognize it and others still haven't caught on) and the right amount of awkwardness to fully enjoy them.

What I have observed in my 3 years of teaching this wildly entertaining age group, has been the fact that they can be completely preoccupied with the most random conversations/topics.

Most recently, one of my classes have been fascinated with taking the "Schae" part of my name and attaching it to celebrities to create these new Schaefer names. They think its hilarious - I'm slightly confused (which happens a lot with adults who spend their time in middle school), but mostly entertained.  The list continues to grow, but I thought I would share with you a few of the favorites of the class.

Schaelor Swift
This is the most popular one. Because I now have curly hair, the common consensus is that I look like Taylor Swift.. I'm not necessarily convinced, but it is what it is.

Beyonschae
…I mean, really? Makes me giggle, but I'd have to say they were creative with this one.

Schusher
Because who doesn't love Usher??

Schariana Grande
umm… who?

Schaekira
I didn't think there was a difference between Shakira and Schaekira, but was very, very wrong. Apparently you must emphasize the SCHAE which makes them totally different.

There are many more on the list, but I will spare you for now.

So, in reality…

Am I confused at their jokes most of the time? yes.

Do I understand why they think things are funny? absolutely not.

Are they absurd? totally

Entertaining? of course

But do I love them? I do...a whole stinking lot.

This year has been so much fun already. I have loved having the opportunity to teach and interact with these sweet, hilarious, awesome souls this year. It has been an entertaining, crazy, but amazing beginning of the year so far. Glad I got to share this sweet glimpse into the everyday lives of middle schoolers with you. Stay tuned for more entertainment.
