March Madness: Part One

March in Texas- I have mixed feelings.

The months name itself gives you the feeling of spring, however, living in Texas you could get sunny and warm weather or gloomy and freezing weather. Hence, my mixed feelings. It has been a long cold, winter (for us Houstonians) and I am ready for some warmer weather! Besides the ever changing Texas weather, March also brings many fun events.

The first of these events is my sweet husbands birthday! I love getting to celebrate this wonderful man and am so thankful for his life.  This year he wanted to eat some good mexican food and hang out with friends. So we did exactly that. Lupe Tortilla and sweet friends!

The next event in March gets all of us Houstonians very excited. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Now, I have to say that I was just introduced to the Houston Rodeo only 2 years ago, but it has actually grown on me. I am from Dallas, not Fort Worth, so I did not ever go to a rodeo growing up. However, I did have the State Fair which includes Big Tex, Ferris Wheel, corn dogs,  and anything you could ever have fried. When I first went to the Houston Rodeo I found that it felt much like home at the State Fair except it smelt like livestock. Throughout my 2 years in Houston I have learned so much more about the rodeo and have grown to really love it. I love how it can only run with all the thousands of volunteers, how many scholarship opportunities there are for students, how the entire city buzzes about it, and how several different performers from a variety of genres fill up Reliant Stadium every night.

Casey and I got to go to the rodeo not for one but for two concerts this year. Concerts are one of my favorite past times so imagine my excitement when Casey brought home Eli Young tickets and Maroon 5 tickets.

After we had our fun at the Rodeo we got to start the week which the month of March is known for….. SPRING BREAK. Holla! Beginning Spring Break we got to visit my dad in Tulsa, OK. The "bear" absolutely loved this because that meant she got to spend time with her grandparents out in Katy. However… getting her there was a different story considering she is terrified of the car. All I had to say was "alright bear lets go" and I get….

Pathetic.

Back to Tulsa -My dad is a new resident of Tulsa and so we had a blast getting to explore the city with him and have him show us his favorite local spots. The first beginning with Cain's Ballroom. So much fun. Like I said before, I love concerts, especially smaller ones. The night we got there Jana Kramer (One Trill Hill fans will know who I'm talking about) was playing. It was a smaller crowd so it was fun to hang out and listen to some good live music.

Luckily, the weekend we were there had some beautiful days. It has been awhile since Tulsa had seen "spring" like weather, so people were out and about. One of the things we got to do (after a delicious breakfast at a place called Wild Fork) was take a nice stroll around Woodward Park. It was such a peaceful and beautiful park - I can only imagine what it looks like in fall or summer.

After the park we went to the Philbrook Museum of Art. What unique history Tulsa is filled with. This city has really preserved not only the historic homes, but places of the arts as well.

We had a long morning eating and exploring so we went back to the hotel for a typical Schaefer nap time. The last event of the day had been something I had wanted to find and my dad had not yet done! It is called "the center of the universe". Yes, the center of the universe is in Tulsa, OK.  … Kidding. However, it was probably the most intriguing spot we went all weekend. It is a circle in the middle of an overpass. I know.. crazy right?! BUT, when you stand in the middle of this circle you can hear your voice echo all around you- similar to how it sounds when you talk into one of those old toy microphones. However, anyone standing outside the circle cannot hear the echo, only you can. It was such an outstanding phenomenon I didn't want to leave.

Overall this March has been a blast and spring break isn't even over yet! What?! Excited to share more of my adventures from the rest of spring break.. here's a sneak peak.
